Frond

A frond is a finely divided leaf

Modified Leaf of a Plant

A modified leaf of a plant

Lichen

Lichen can be found in the cracks between cement and can consist of fungus growing together.

Adaption of an Animal

This is a picture of an adaption of an animal (turtle) where it adapts to its environment.

Eubacteria

Eubacteria literally means bacteria and bacteria can turn green or moldy.

Littoral Zone Organism

Littoral zone organism is the region of the shore of a lake, sea or ocean. This is my mini littoral zone.

Adhesion and Cohesion

Cohesion when water sticks with water and adhesion is when water is attracted to another substance like this plant. This is a picture of both occurring at the same time.

Parasitism

Is when one organism is against another for example when a person is sick. The organisms inside the body are battling.

Taxis

:   The responsive movement of a free-moving organism or cell toward or away from an external stimulus, such as light like moths do in the night towards a porch light.

Endosperm

Is the part of the seed that act as foods and usually contain starch, protein, and other nutrients like rice.

Ruminant

A ruminant is a mammal that digests plant-based food like the cycle of a cow producing milk.

C3 Plant

Everything that a C3 plant is this mango has. A C3 plant is carbon fixation is a metabolic pathway for carbon fixation in photosynthesis.

Endosperm

Endosperm is the nutritive tissue within seeds of flowering plants, surrounding and absorbed by the embryo like corn.

Autotroph

Autotroph is anything that is self-nourishing like flowers.

Gymnosperm Leaf

Gymnosperm leaf's are usually pointy. They are different from flowers.

Aposematic Coloring

Aposematic coloring is animal fur.

Cellulose

Cellulose is a carbohydrate also a polymer that can be found in bread.

Gynosperm Cone

This is a gynosperm, a cone.

Endoderm

Endoderm is an animal that can generate internal heat; a warm-blooded animal like this bird

Redox Reaction

Redox reactions, or oxidation-reduction reactions, primarily involve the transfer of electrons between two chemical species. The compound that loses an electron is said to be oxidized, the one that gains an electron is said to be reduced. For example, fire and wood burning.

Adaption of a Plant

Adaption’s of plants refers to ways in a plant has undergone changes to it's genes as well as physical appearance in order to survive in a environment.

Homeostasis

Homeostasis is the tendency of an organism or a cell to regulate its internal conditions, usually by a system of feedback controls, to stabilize health and functioning, regardless of the outside changing conditions like my dog.

Succession

Succession is the act or process of following in order or sequence like the weather.

Connective Tissue

Connective tissue is tissue that supports, connects, or separates different types of tissues and organs of the body.

Part 3 Answers

1. The problem with some of the fairy tale monsters is that it would be much difficult to carry on. Every body part would have to increase to support the amount of weight such as the bones. Most likely though, if that were to happen the monsters would break from just one step because the pressure against the small bones as Haldane describes.
2. Gravity has a different affect to bigger and smaller animals. Bigger animals though, have a larger impact because the amount of pressure against the surface tension when it falls. It can cause injuries such as a broken leg or worse death. For a smaller creature though, it is much less of an impact because it’s pressure or surface tensions isn’t as strong but much lighter.
3. Animals have become more complicated because the bigger they are in size the more they require for themselves such larger blood pressure, tougher blood-vessels, food intake, and amount of oxygen needed, and so on.
4. In humans the gut is complicated to increase absorbing food.
5. Oxygen entering or diffusing restricts the thickness of insects.
6.  Larger animals eat less than smaller animals. For example that Haldane uses, is a mouse and how a mouse has to eat about one quarter of its own weight everyday to keep warm. While in the other hand larger animals don’t eat as much because they can survive the cold when smaller animals can’t.

7.  Whales don’t have eyes much larger than ours because if they were bigger they wouldn’t see well. If the cones and rods were bigger on a whale, their eye sight would be terrible.

Fermentation

Fermentation is a metabolic process converting sugar to acids like this yogurt.

Exoskeleton

Exoskeleton is a skeleton outside the body for protection like this little ant.

Long-Day Plant

Long Day Plant is plant that requires a set amount of sunlight like this lettuce.

Sporophyte

Sporophyte is spore-producing phase in the life cycle of a plant that exhibits alternation of generations.

Amniotic Egg

An amniotic egg is an egg of a reptile that contains fluid inside. This fluid helps sustain the embryo on dry land while to continues to grow.

Glycogen

Glycogen is a substance deposited in bodily tissues as a store of carbohydrates; a polysaccharide that yields glucose on hydrolysis. A banana carries this once eaten.

Heterotroph

A heterotroph is any organism that requires organic substrates in order to survive.

Territorial Behavior

Territorial Behavior is which an animal, or group of animals, protects its territory from incursions by others of its species. Here is my dog protecting the yard.

Flower Ovary

Flower ovary is the innermost whorl in the center of a flower is the female reproductive structure, or pistil. The lower part of the pistil is the ovary.

Altruistic Behavior

Altruistic Behavior is an unselfish concern for the welfare of others.

Epithelial Tissue

Epithelial tissue is covers the whole surface of the body. It is made up of cells closely packed and ranged in one or more layers.

Enzymes

Enzymes are any groups of complex proteins that are produced by living cells and act as catalyst in specific biochemical reactions.

Here is a picture of a C4 PLANT. A C4 plant is a plant which creates a four carbon (C4) sugar as its basic sugar unit when performing photosynthesis.
Here is a picture of HYDROPHOBIC. Hydrophobic is repelling, tending not to combine with, or incapable of dissolving in water.
Here is a picture of my two puppies. I use this picture as MATING BEHAVIOR even though they are playing instead. Mating behavior is the pairing of opposite-sex or hermaphroditic organisms, usually for the purposes of reproduction.
Here is a picture of a CAM PLANT in my grandparents backyard. A CAM plant have only one cell, and they open their stomata at night and close them during the day. The CO2 they take in at night is incorporated into 4 carbon compounds (organic acids) and is sent off to the calvin cycle during the day to make glucose. CAM plants are usually found in dry desert areas.
Here is a picture I took on my way to Zuma Beach in Malibu. Along the freeway there were POPULATIONS of flowers.A population is a group of organisms of one species that interbreed and live in the same place at the same time.
Here is a picture of two different flowers that contain POLLEN. Pollen's by definition are the fertilizing element of flowering plants. They consist of powdery, yellowish grains.
